Funding for Participation in SusCrop; the ERA-NET Cofund on Sustainable Crop Production

The EU Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI) has brought together 24 funding organisations from 18 countries in a joint Call under the ERA-NET SusCrop to attract proposals focused on Sustainable Crop Production in order to tackle the societal challenges of the 21st century.

The SusCrop Call Announcement (published on website link above) sets out that proposals be multidisciplinary and should address at least one of the following topics:

  1. Enhancement of predictive breeding technologies and development of new genotypes leading to new phenotypes and crop varieties for improvement of plant health, protection, production and resilience
  2. Development and exploitation of novel integrated pest and crop management methods and practices
  3. Improvement of resource-use efficiency of crops and cropping systems
  4. Systemic research on agricultural crops as part of an ecosystem including interactions between plants and other organisms (“the plant as a meta-organism”)

The total indicative funding for the Call is c. €18 million. The funding partners in Ireland are DAFM and Teagasc who have pledged to commit up to €350,000 and €176,000 respectively (a combined contribution of up to €526,000) in funding for successful Irish participants.

The Guidelines for Irish applicants (pdf 836Kb)  contains detailed guidance for submitting applications to the 2017 SusCrop Call and should be read in conjunction with the central SusCrop Call Announcement, which also includes a National Annex setting out summary requirements for Irish applicants seeking grant-aid.

The SusCrop Call opened for pre-proposal submissions on 15 January 2018. Please note the submission deadlines of this two-stage Call are:

  • Pre-proposals: April 4, 2018, 13:00 h (CEST)
  • Full proposals: August 31, 2018, 13:00 h (CEST)
