Minister of State McEntee Welcomes Re-Opening of Newbridge Greyhound Track

Shane McEntee, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine today welcomed the news that Newbridge Greyhound Track would shortly re-open for business having being closed since March of this year. The Minister of State noted "11,000 people derive employment, directly and indirectly, from the greyhound industry in Ireland and the total turnover of the industry amounts to in excess of €500m".

The Minister of State said "the greyhound breeding, training and racing industry generates very substantial economic activity and makes a vital contribution to the rural economy including farm incomes."

In conclusion, the Minister of State stated "I am delighted to learn that Newbridge Greyhound Stadium is soon to re-open. This premier venue located in the centre of Co. Kildare is a wonderful amenity not only for the greyhound racing fraternity but also people of Newbridge and its hinterland. I wish to take this opportunity to wish all those associated with the operation of Newbridge Greyhound Stadium every success in the future and I would urge the people of Newbridge and the surrounding areas to lend their support to this local enterprise where you'll be guaranteed a great night's entertainment in very comfortable surroundings".
