Minister Smith opens "Healthy People, Healthy Forests" Exhibition at the site of the Battle of the Boyne

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, today opened Coillte Teoranta's "Healthy People, Healthy Forests" exhibition at Oldbridge House, Co. Meath, which is located on the battlesite of the Battle of the Boyne.

The exhibition brings together information on a number of Coillte's significant projects and activities in managing the environment and aims to give people a better understanding of the management of public forests.

Opening the exhibition, the Minister noted that "It features recreation, habitat restoration and the management of biodiversity on Coillte's estate".  Referring to 'Food Harvest 2020', Minister Smith also pointed out that, "part of the overall vision is to 'think Green' with the conservation of biodiversity as one component of that.  This exhibition illustrates the work that is already being done in relation to biodiversity and, for that reason, provides us with a valuable insight and fosters appreciation of what the 'management of biodiversity' entails.".

Minister Smith thanked his colleague, Dr. Martin Mansergh, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), the OPW and the Staff of the Boyne Visitor Centre for hosting the Coillte exhibition in Oldbridge House as it displayed co-operation between all of the State organisations involved to make such information available and accessible to the general public.

The Minister concluded by encouraging people to visit and view this informative and timely exhibition.
