Smith Launches The Oldcastle Agricultural Show

Brendan Smith TD, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food officially launched the Oldcastle Agricultural show at a press night held on 13th August in Oldcastle, Co. Meath.

Minister Smith said that the Oldcastle show, due to be held on Sunday 26th September, is a highlight of the year for the local community and the show continues to grow from strength to strength, in this its 71st year. The show always attracts a large range of competitors from the North East region to compete in a host of classes. It not only boasts some of Irelands finest livestock, but also has a wide selection of competitions for garden produce, home cooking, arts and crafts which are bound to attract a high standard of entry from competitors both young and old.

The Minister said "Oldcastle show has very high reputation for the quality of competitions and events, offering something for both urban and rural dwellers to meet and enjoy a real family day out. I welcome the overall sponsorship from Carnaross Mart which will ensure the continued success of this valuable community event".

The Minister acknowledged the importance for everyone involved in agriculture and in particular the livestock sector, of the production of quality livestock by exhibiting our top animals on a national stage. He stated that Shows such as Oldcastle are important events in the agri-food calendar.

The Minister concluded by wishing the organising committee, the exhibitors, the sponsors, all those involved in the organisations of the Oldcastle show a very successful and enjoyable event.
