Minister Wallace announces additional support for wood energy supply chain

Mary Wallace TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has introduced a second phase capital grant scheme worth approximately €0.6m to provide further support to developing enterprises in the wood chip supply sector.

Building on the success of the first phase grant scheme launched in Spring '07, this scheme will grant aid the purchase of mobile wood chipper units by providing in certain cases up to 40% of the purchase price of this equipment.

Minister Wallace said: "This scheme will provide further opportunities for developing forestry potential at a local level. To provide information on the scheme and to enable potential applicants avail of valuable expertise in this sector, my Department, in conjunction with COFORD and Teagasc is hosting a Seminar Day for potential applicants on Friday, 7 December 2007 at 9.30am in the Comfort Inn Hotel, Midway, Portlaoise, Co Laois. All applicants are encouraged to attend and participation is free of charge."
