Compendium Of Irish Agricultural Statistics, 2007

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mary Coughlan T.D., today announced the publication of the Compendium of Irish Agricultural Statistics 2007 compiled by her Department.

The Compendium illustrates the important contribution of the agri-food sector to the changing dynamic of the Irish economy, for example, the agri-food sector accounts for approximately €12.26bn or 8% of Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2006, approximately €8.7bn in exports and employs over 163,000 people.

The Minister said: "The Compendium illustrates how the Irish agri-food sector has evolved and where it stands currently from both a national perspective as well as against certain international benchmarks. There is a wealth of statistics and tables covering the sector and its value within the wider economy in terms of production, value-added, employment, and exports."

The Compendium includes up-to-date statistics from the Central Statistics Office, the recently published Teagasc National Farm Survey and other sources.
