People in Dairy Action Plan

Acknowledging the fact that there are a range of labour and skills shortages across the agri-food sector, as discussed in a Food Wise workshop in April 2017, the Food Wise High Level Implementation Committee agreed in October 2017 that a Working Group be put in place to develop a plan to address farm labour shortages for the dairy sector. The ‘People in Dairy Stakeholder Group’, comprising representatives from across the sector was established under the Chairmanship of Mr. Tom Moran, former Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The Action Plan produced by this group sets out a range of actions and initiatives that will help ensure Irish dairying reaches its full potential and delivers a rewarding career to both dairy farmers and farm employees. It will also serve a further very useful and important role in helping to make dairy farms safer places to work. Given the scale of expansion of the dairy sector, implementation of this Action Plan will complement a range of related actions in Food Wise 2025.
