National Organic Training Skillnet

National Organic Training Skillnet is an innovative organisation in the North West which is dedicated to providing relevant training for Organic Producers and anyone who is considering conversion to Organics. The Network was established at the end of 2003 under the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd.

The training programme has received further funding for 2006-2007 through the ACCEL training Programme. Accel is an initiative of the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment and is managed by Skillnets Services Ltd on its behalf. The programme is funded by the European Social Fund and the National Training Fund.

The National Organic Training Skillnet provides:

  • Advice & Support
  • Low cost, localised training
  • Contact with other farmers & growers at regular monthly meetings
  • Regular social and networking events
  • Trained support staff
  • Information to producer groups, co-ops and agencies

In addition the Network has a range of courses which have been developed and refined over the last eighteen months by extensive consultation with Organic Farmers and growers in the area.

Courses include:

  • Conversion to Organics
  • Practical Organic Livestock Management
  • Commercial Organic Horticulture
  • Business Skills for Organic Producers
  • Marketing Skills for Organic Producers
  • A 'Train the Trainer/Mentor' course
