Sampling & Analysis of Feed

The prescribed procedures for sampling and analysis of feedingstuffs are set out in Commission Regulation (EC) No 152/2009 (pdf 668Kb)  laying down the methods of sampling and analysis for the official control of feed. This regulation consolidates and repeals a number of previous Directives on sampling and analysis. The official sampling procedure is intended to provide a sample, which is representative of the consignment or lot from which it is drawn. The sample is analysed to determine the content of some compositional characteristic or the presence of a contaminant. The analysis result is then compared with a declared level (e.g. crude protein) or a minimum or maximum specification (e.g. additives, moisture, etc.) or in the case of a contaminant a maximum permitted level. In certain circumstances, official tolerances (or limits of error) are prescribed and are taken into account when determining compliance with a declared level.
