Kerry Slug and Otter Guidelines

The Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, has published the Forestry and Otter Guidelines and the Forestry and Kerry Slug Guidelines on this site.

They may be downloaded here:

These species are listed in Annex IV of the Habitats Directive and require strict protection as detailed in Article 12 and 13 of the Habitats Directive. This makes it an offence to deliberately disturb each of these species or damage or destroy its breeding or resting place wherever it occurs. Forestry has been identified as an activity with the potential to impact on these Annex IV species.

These Guidelines have been developed by the Forest Service in consultation with National Parks and Wildlife Service, Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. They are a result of a review of relevant literature and expert advice.

The Guidelines describe the species, their habitats and the methods by which they will be protected during forest operations and how the Forest Service will take them into consideration when issuing license and approvals for forest operations.
