Expressions of Interest from Private Veterinary Practitioners (PVP) in relation to the Knowledge Transfer Programme

The Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine (DAFM) is seeking expressions of interest from private veterinary practitioners (PVP) in relation to the Knowledge Transfer Programme.  Under this Programme, some 1,000 groups of farmers are receiving targeting upskilling and training.

The preparatory analyses underlying the development of the Knowledge Transfer Programme and the Rural Development Programme as a whole identified the delivery of animal health measures by approved PVPs as a key priority area for inclusion in this targeted up-skilling of farmers. Thus, farmer participants in Knowledge Transfer Groups for Beef, Dairy, Sheep, Equine and Poultry sectors are required to complete Animal Health Measures (AHM) with a PVP as part of an annual Farm Improvement Plan over the three year programme.

This will involve one to one on-farm consultation between the PVP and the individual farmer participants on topics such as Calf Health, Biosecurity, Parasite Control, Lameness and Fertility as appropriate to the sector. The PVP is required to record data including agreed targets and recommendations on a DAFM dedicated online system.

Expressions of interest for PVPs who wish to be approved for the Knowledge Transfer Programme can be via the following link:

https://publicapps.agriculture.gov.ie/ata/kt/faces/welcome.jspx

Following this process, a list of PVPs approved to deliver the one to one consultation outlined above will be made available to farmer participants in Knowledge Transfer Groups. The enlisting and compensation of a PVP will then be a matter for the farmer participant to arrange.

In order to support the delivery of this priority area, mandatory training on completion of the AHM in the beef, dairy and sheep sectors will be provided by DAFM as listed below. Each PVP who wishes to participate in the delivery of the Knowledge Transfer Programme in the beef, sheep and dairy sectors is required to attend one session.
