State Board Vacancies
Simon Coveney T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine invites expressions of interest from persons interested in being appointed to the boards of State Bodies operating under the aegis of his Department. There are also two organisations operating under the remit of Horse Racing Ireland to which the Minister nominates members.
In making any board appointments, the Minister will not necessarily be confined to those who make such expressions of interest but will ensure that all of those appointed have the relevant mix of knowledge and expertise to contribute to the board.
Persons being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State Bodies may be required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas committee to discuss the approach which they will take to their role as chairperson and their views about the future contribution of the State Body in question and, following that discussion, a decision will be taken by the Minister or the Government, as appropriate, to confirm the nominee as chairperson.
In the case of a number of the Bodies, the board appointments, while made by the Minister, are not made at the Minister's sole discretion and, instead, individuals are nominated for appointment by the Minister by various organisations as specified in the relevant statute. These are the Aquaculture Licensing Appeals Board, Bord Bia, Horse Racing Ireland, National Milk Agency, Teagasc and the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
Expressions of interest should be sent by e-mail to stateboardvacancies@agriculture.gov.ie and should indicate the State Board s/he wishes to apply for, provide a brief outline of skills, competencies and qualifications and a short statement outlining why s/he wishes to be considered for a position on the board. The Department will acknowledge receipt of such applications and inform applicants in due course of the Minister’s decision in relation to the appointment.
All expressions of interest lapse at the end of the calendar year.
